The Many Benefits of Petitgrain

Distilled from the leaves and twigs of the Citrus aurantium L. (bitter orange) tree, Petitgrain essential oil has a long history of use in perfumery and for its many health benefits. Despite being derived from a citrus tree, with high concentrations of linalyl acetate and linalool, Petitgrain is actually more chemically similar to floral and herb essential oils. Its refreshing combination of citrus, floral, and slightly woody aromatic notes provides some insight into its unique spectrum of benefits. Along with its distinct scent, Petitgrain offers calming, cleansing, and several body system-supporting benefits.

Historically, Petitgrain essential oil has been most commonly used aromatically. The high concentration of linalyl acetate provides benefits similar to that of Clary Sage or Lavender, offering calming and harmonizing properties. Experimental research suggests inhaled Petitgrain may help promote feelings of calmness and encourage relaxation (1-3). When looking to wind down from a long day or to create a comforting environment, the distinct citrusy floral scent of Petitgrain is the perfect aromatic complement.

Like many other citrus-derived essential oils, Petitgrain has a variety of uses for surface cleaning. Experimental research suggests that Petitgrain essential oil has surface cleansing properties, making it an interesting alternative to citrus oils for your kitchen, bathroom, or other household cleaning (4, 5). Use both Petitgrain and Lemon essential oil in your homemade all-natural household cleaner.

Experimental research has uncovered that when consumed, Petitgrain essential oil may support the cardiovascular, digestive, immune, and nervous systems; provide antioxidant support; and even promote sleep (6-11).* Whether beginning a cleanse or looking for a way to prepare to sleep, adding 1–2 drops of Petitgrain to a glass of water, tea, or citrus is a great way to add to your daily health regimen.14369224_1215291831875294_4536012044746358784_n

Calorie Burning Drink That Works While You Sleep

I saw this great article on Curejoy  and thought I would share.

Blend 1 lemon, 1 cucumber, 1 tbs grated ginger, 1 tbs of aloe vera juice, a bunch of cilantro/parsley and ½ glass of water until smooth and drink before bedtime. This drink boosts your metabolism rate and burn fat as you sleep. Cucumber and lemon flush fat and toxins respectively, while ginger eases digestion and parsley/cilantro is rich in antioxidants.

Metabolism is the rate at which your body burns calories. Making smart choices about what you eat and drink (like fat burning foods and calorie burning drinks) can help boost your metabolism even while you sleep.

Bedtime Calorie Burning Drink

Sipping a glass of this juice before bedtime can trigger fat burn – especially around your belly, while you sleep. A quick look at the ingredients that combine together to dissolve stubborn fat:

  • Cucumbers are hydrating and great at working on those tricky fat reserves. You cannot keep them out of any weight loss drinks.
  • Parsley and cilantro are low in calories, and loaded with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. They are supper-effective at easing water retention, and soothing an inflated tummy.
  • Ginger is a super-spice that fires up your metabolism and supports a healthy digestive system.
  • Lemon juice is an effective toxin buster that flushes out excess fat and impurities from the system.
  • Aloe Vera juice is full of antioxidants that delay the development of free radicals that cause inflammation and bloating.

  • 1 lemon
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 tablespoon of grated ginger
  • 1 tablespoon of aloe vera juice
  • A bunch of either cilantro or parsley
  • ½ glass of water

Simply add the ingredients together, blend them and drink a glass of the juice before bedtime.

Stay Hydrated: Drink Lots of Water

Whether your body is turning food into fuel or working away at your fat reserves, it needs water to efficiently burn calories. If you are not fully hydrated, your metabolism will slow down and you won’t be burning calories as efficiently as you can. So drink up and give your metabolism a little boost.
